Stained Glass Windows: A look into our faith

Throughout the history of the Church, our physical buildings have been adorned with stained glass to depict some of the truths of our faith. These monuments to Catholicism have been used to teach the faith to those who were unable to read, and have been a tesitmony of beauty ever since. Depicting the beauty of the mysteries in the life of Our Lord and His Holy Mother teach us lessons throughout our lives.

Light has always been a common spiritual theme in Catholic theology. In the book of Genesis we read: "Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good” (Genesis 1:3-4). And Jesus told us Himself; "I am the light of the world: he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)

Therefore, it has been fitting that Christians have put much time and energy into creating and developing windows for Churches to disfuse the light of the sun and dispel the darkness.

With this in mind, the beautiful stain glass windows that adorn Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, were acquired from a German Company. The windows were the project of Father Raymond Fleming when the old church was moved and work began on the present church completed in 1917.

Do you know which mystery is presented in each window?
